The California Public Records Act allows for the exemption of medical, personal, or similar files that contain personal details. However, this exemption is conditional. Personal information may still be released if the custodian decides that the public’s right to disclosure outweighs the subject’s privacy interest. ( Cal Code §6254, subd. (c)).
